Navigate the ribbon with only the keyboard
Access keys are special shortcuts that let you quickly use a command on the ribbon by pressing a few keys, regardless of where you are in the program. Every command in Word can be accessed by using an access key. You can get to most commands by using two to five keystrokes.
To use an access key:
1.   Use the following table to choose the ribbon tab that you want to open.
To do this

Open Home tab to use common formatting commands, paragraph Styles, or to use the Find tool.

2.   Press DOWN ARROW to move into the ribbon tab that you selected, and then use ARROW keys to move to the command you want.
3.   Use TAB or arrow keys to move to different commands in that ribbon tab. Some commands cannot be accessed with an arrow key.
4.   To move between groups on a ribbon, press CTRL+RIGHT ARROW or CTRL+LEFT ARROW.
5.    
o    If the command is a standard button, press SPACEBAR or ENTER to activate the command that you want.
o    If the command is a split button (that is, a button that opens a menu of additional options), press ALT+DOWN ARROW to move through the options and then press SPACEBAR or ENTER to select that option.
Use access keys when you can see the KeyTips
To use access keys:
1.   Press ALT.
2.   Press the letter shown in the square KeyTip that appears over the ribbon command that you want to use.
Depending on which letter you press, you may be shown additional KeyTips. For example, if you press ALT+F, the Office Backstage opens on the Info page which has a different set of KeyTips. If you then press ALT again, KeyTips for navigating on this page appear.
Change the keyboard focus without using the mouse
The following table lists some ways to move the keyboard focus without using the mouse.
To do this

Insert characters by using character codes
To do this
Press
Insert the Unicode character for the specified Unicode (hexadecimal) character code. For example, to insert the euro currency symbol (), type 20AC, and then hold down ALT and press X.

Insert SmartArt graphics

4.   Press ENTER.
Insert WordArt
1.   Press and release ALT, N, and then W to select WordArt.
2.   Press the arrow keys to select the WordArt style that you want, and then press ENTER.

Set proofing language
Every document has a default language, typically the same default language as your computer's operating system.
